War Pony By Patricia Mills

Inspired by the book " Empire of the Summer Moon", by S.C. Gwynne, I was compelled to do a painting depicting the horse culture of the Comanche. The horses were such a vital part of the Comanche and other tribes, my desire was to represent them in a dynamic, colorful painting. The colors I chose are to capture the sun. prairie and natural foliage of the Comanche homelands. The horsemanship of the Comanche was so masterful, they stopped the northern drive of colonial Spain from Mexico and halted the French expansion westward from Louisiana.
